Facebook isn’t one size fits all. Each company and/or brand should have a unique strategy that fits them. Some companies can and will use Facebook to their advantage, while others will simply set up a page, pat themselves on the back all while the page becomes increasingly stagnant over time.
So before jumping into Facebook, here are some important things to consider.
Why Facebook?
First and foremost figure out why you’d like to have a Facebook page. Thinking through this will help you determine what kind of content you’re going to post. Some common reasons could be:
- Promotional Purposes
- Establishing Credibility
- Build Relationship
- Building Brand Awareness
- Publicize Your Blog
The Who (not the band)
Next, see what your competitors are up to on Facebook. If they’re not currently implementing a Facebook strategy, you can be sure they will probably jump on the bandwagon before too long. If you can find them, look at what kind of content they’re producing and how they are engaging within the community.
What Are You Going to Share?
Now that you know how your competitors are using Facebook and how you’re going to use it, it’s time to figure out what you’re going to say.
And the Big, Scary, Question: Are you going to encourage users to upload their content? After all this is social media isn’t it.
The first part to this is a relatively easy step. Take the list that you created for “Why” your company is going to use Facebook and begin coming up with ideas for each topic. For example:
- Promotional Purposes
Post new promotions, coupons, contests, etc. - Establishing Credibility
Provide useful information pertaining to your industry or vertical market. - Build Relationships
Post pictures of your company, welcome new employees, etc. - Increase Brand Awareness
Publish videos demonstrating your products, community involvement, or even testimonials from satisfied customers. - Publicize Your Blog
Create a feed that automatically updates Facebook with your latest blog posts.
You may have to do some thinking about the second part of this question. You can allow users to post their own information, but it requires a watchful eye for inappropriate or misleading content. So think long and hard about this decision.
Get Going Already
Create your companies Facebook page and start inviting people to join. Once you reach 100 fans, Facebook rewards you by letting you customize your very own URL. For example, our Facebook page is www.facebook.com/AlterImaging/, where we engage with the local Charlotte community and try to provide them with a source for quality SEO, Marketing, and Social Media information.
